Why?, Why Not?: The first step to Change

Tired yet? The number one key to taking the first step is simply how tired are you? What I mean by tired is not, you didn’t get your 8 hours of sleep the night before.

Take a look around you, take a look at the image you see in the mirror, take a look at your life, your circumstances, money, your energy, your motivation? Now ask yourself is this the life, the vision, the passion you have always wanted to follow?

If you did all those things and at any moment you had a slight hesitation, second thought, or grimaced because you realized something slipped through your fingers, its time!

Time for what?

It is time to find someone that is living the life you have always wanted to live, have the looks that you want, the success, fame, money, the body.

Now think about this person and look at how happy they are doing what they love.

They get to go on the trips that you have wanted to take for years whenever they want. They have the sports car and zip past you on the highway. They get the extremely good-looking person that you have had your eye on for the past couple of years. They get the promotion that you feel like you deserve. They look good in the bikini or the swimsuit, they have more energy to go out with friends, have more energy to play with their kids. They can buy anything at the drop of a hat, the new houses, the new tvs, and they always have the trendy items!

Are you TIRED yet?

To tell you the truth Im tired of just typing all of it.

Here is the key though, you have to get so sick and tired of wondering “why”. Why do these people get the things you want? Why do they deserve it? Why do they seem to be living the life you want?

Why? Why? Why? Why?

Why to the point that it becomes so unbearable and every time you see yourself, you can’t comprehend why or how it got so bad. You have to get so tired that the only way forward is to make the change you keep running from, the very why you keep questioning!

In my particular case this was my weight and the utter discussed I saw in the mirror looking back at me.

I got tired of not being able to walk up a flight of stairs without being winded. I got so tired of waking up alone and not truly connecting with a significant other because I felt I wasn’t good enough. I got tired of feeling like I couldn’t walk anywhere without people looking at me and making fun of me for how big I was. I got so tired of feeling empty inside, alone, abandoned, due to the fact I didn’t fit in because I couldn’t participate in activities and feel 100% comfortable with people. I got tired and I knew then and there that the only way to get where I wanted to go was to change this feeling.

No more questioning why, no more being tired, im going to make my change so I never have to feel tired again.

I started the summer of my freshman year in college. I kept going when I truly didn’t know where I was headed, had lost my motivation, wasn’t seeing results, when people where telling me to give up, when people doubted my steps, when people questioned why?

I killed my goal that first summer that I started working out during college. The college 15 or in my case 30 was history and I stepped onto the path most shy away from during college.

In retrospect I started controlling most of my life, I stopped going out, focused more at the task at hand, started planning out my life, workouts, time to hit the gym, work, school work.

This led me to eventually graduating twice with a degree that most people hear of the title they think WOW. I didn’t graduate once but TWICE on top of that the second time I walked across the stage I brought my best physique I have ever managed.

I did this in the years that most find their significant others, when life starts, when people freak out about finding jobs, internships, co-ops, partying every weekend, limited sleep, exams, test, projects. The list is endless and on top of that, the number of people that can make a lifestyle change or function in the lifestyle I choose at this time is even more limited.

So I simply ask you if I can make such a change and start live and follow my passion when it seems like almost the whole stack of cards is against me, can you?

How many times have you said I’m going to lose 10lbs, lose 10 lbs and put on the 15 lbs to boot?

How many times do you say I’m not going out and you go out and you can’t function the next day?

How many times have you said I’m going to save all my money but then go spend it on something that doesn’t truly help you along the way?

How many times have you said I’m going to follow my vision, but end up playing video games instead of working on the vision?

Simply put you are not tired enough of not having what you want, how your live, or being alone, and that is totally fine.

The beauty is if or when you get to that point just know people are always there to help you along the way. However, they wont be able to help you if you don’t want them to.

Get tired of something and use the people that support you to overcome, grow, and untimely create a new standard for yourself. Being tired is not the enemy it is the platform that serves as initial step for you to go after your inner greatness.

Although I have come a long way, am proud of what I have accomplished, I’m still tired in one area or another in my life. I use this concept to keep going, stay motivated, and always trying to break the standard I have set or know that I want.

If you are tired like I was, think today is the day I’m going to change, change the day into something you want to do every day and sooner or later you won’t be the one asking why. In actuality “Why” will make you smile and you will simply ask “Why Not”!!!!

I want to leave you with a quote I saw:

"If a man achieves victory over this body, who in the world can exercise power over him? He who rules himself rules over the whole world."
